Do you know Julie? You may know her as Nurse Julie, or Coach Julie, or you may not know her at all. If you don't know Julie she is an owner of Wolfpack Fitness in Hatfield, PA. She is also an ER nurse at our local trauma center. This blog however is here to tell you a little bit about triathlete Julie. Many of you know that Julie races in triathlons, but what does that mean? How did she get here? What is an Ironman anyway?
What is an Ironman anyway?
A triathlon is a sporting event that those who compete in them affectionately call "the great balancing act". It is a competition where you swim, bike, and then run. And yes your time between those individual sports counts towards your total time. There are varying distances of triathlon races. There are sprint distances, olympic distances, 70.3 mile, and even 140.6 mile races. The distances of the 3 disciplines are added up to account for the full distance of the race. For example the 140.6, or full Ironman race is a 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike, and 26.2 mile run. The 70.3, or half Ironman is a 1.2 mile swim, 56 mile bike, and 13.1 mile run.

How did Julie get here?
Julie was a swimmer in high school. After she had her 3rd child in 2010 she started running 5Ks. In 2012 she did her first triathlon ever, Steelman, at Lake Nockamixon. After that she began doing 1-2 races a year. In 2018 she completed her first Ironman 70.3 in Atlantic City. Julie has always had a desire to outdo herself. She continued racing and continued to improve. In 2021, she completed her first Ironman 140.6 in Maryland. For a few years she took a break from racing while Wolfpack Fitness was in its infancy. However, Julie was not done racing yet. While running her own business, still working hours as an ER nurse and raising a family, Julie wanted to outdo herself. At Wolfpack we have a very important phrase written on our walls, “DO THE WORK” and Julie wanted to lead by example. She hired a coach in late 2024 and went to work. She has had many mornings with 2 hour bike rides BEFORE teaching an 8am class, or long runs after a Friday morning double at Wolfpack. She has been putting in the work every single day and still shows up and coaches at Wolfpack with a smile on her face. All of the hard work and early mornings paid off after her Ironman 70.3 in Canada in June of 2025. She qualified for the Ironman 70.3 WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS in Marbella, Spain in November 2025!

Where you come in...
Julie will be representing WOLFPACK FITNESS as she races amongst the best in the world. This may be a once in a lifetime opportunity. When you qualify for this type of race you decide on the spot if you are going to register, after you've just raced a 70.3. As an amateur racer, this sport can be very costly, especially when racing internationally. Sponsorships from big hospitals and corporations are typically reserved for professional athletes. Many of our gracious members have asked how we can fundraise to help get Julie to Spain. We thought what better way to support Julie then combine our greatest Happy Hour yet and 3rd year anniversary party all in one!
